7 weeks in and Halloween

OK! We are 7 weeks into the new 2020-2021 school year. Has it been rough? Yes. Has it been unbearable? No.

Ironically, I believe COVID-19 has forced all the public education systems in this country, and worldwide even, into the 21st century. So many students and schools have not implemented the technology that students will encounter upon graduation and entering college or the workforce. Simply knowing how to use a smartphone is not knowing technology.

The difficulty for me is knowing which technologies to use for my students to best challenge them. There are as many sources out there in the Wide World Web to use, teachers must be prudent in making decisions as to which ones to use.

This is just my two cents for what it is worth. I love what I do; I love the challenge, and always want to give my best to get the best out of all of my students.

Happy Halloween Week!

A few of my favorite things.

WOW!

Has 2020 been a year or what?

What began as a school research Blog during my master's degree has turned into occasional musings and interests.

But now, with the onset of COVID 19 and my mom having stage 4 lung cancer (and moving in with me for hospice), I feel I have more to say, not so much for others, but most definitely for myself.

This isn't meant to be a "hot" Blog spot, or an attempt to be heard, but rather has become a place for me to share, to be heard, and to remember the things that make me happy and make me feel alive.

Personality

I think it is interesting to study personality and personality traits. I have enjoyed this section of my course work because it is always an opportunity for self-reflection and learning. The thing most shocking about this test for me was that the word extravert was any where on the page. I have always considered myself to be an introvert. Maybe it is time to step back and reflect what parts of my personality lead the test to label me and an extravert.

Leadership

Who is a leader?

While I had a good understanding of leadership styles and self-leadership definitions I recently learned through my first class at ACU that self-motivation is imperative to realizing a Christian vocation or calling.

I was visiting with my adult children at college last night in Stephenville, and the idea of a calling came up in conversation. One child and his fiancé (now wife) are active in the church, and the other and her fiancé are not, but we all came up with the idea that a calling is something you can’t, or rather shouldn’t, ignore. It is that passion that doesn’t just better you as a person, but we all came to a consensus that Rick Lytle’s week 10 “Cornerstone 2011” YouTube video supported that an individual’s calling should “add value to the lives of the people around you.”

I rebelled for years and two careers before becoming a teacher. Even then, I did not begin to fathom I would become a leader or “the boss.” I became a teacher while working in research for my English master’s degree. I was midway through my thesis when I was placed in a classroom as a teaching assistant, with three days’ notice, because of high enrollment, and so began my career in education.

I am truly blessed enough to not only get to do what I love, but I also have the capacity to serve others so they may discover their calling as well which leads me to leadership. My personal goal with leadership is to enable others to discover their calling.

It isn’t about money or things, but rather, it is about people: students, parents, teachers, humanity!

Feels

There have been so many positive changes in my life, but this one, by far, has had the biggest impact in my life. My goal is to post at least once a week on my blog. I will include from my life, my school, my family, my career, and my beliefs. Most of all, I just want to have fun, learn, vent, and promote a forum of positive thinking.

A new day...

OK, I always say, "I am seriously going to post. Really. I mean it this time." However, it never seems to happen. But,  today is a new day. Today is about not being so serious. I have a new job, a new home, a new business, and a new degree.

Life is challenging to say the least. I am excited about this new journey, and if no one reads this but me, then so be it. I am doing what I feel I need to do to be me. I will figure this thing out along the way.
